After a full day of riding, we settle in at the Shearer’s Quarters, a cosy and rustic accommodation that provides a true taste of rural New Zealand.
Day 5. Rest day at Waewaepa Station. Today is a well-deserved rest day at Waewaepa Station. Take this opportunity to relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings, or choose to participate in the farm activities if you’re feeling adventurous. Feed the lambs, help with sheep mustering, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll around the farm. The choice is yours!
Day 6. Ride to Owahanga Marae. Today we continue our journey and ride to the stunning Owahanga Marae, a traditional meeting place for the local Maori community. Experience the rich Maori culture and hospitality as we are welcomed onto the marae with a powhiri (traditional Maori welcome). Enjoy a traditional hangi (Maori feast) for dinner and immerse yourself in the Maori traditions and stories. Spend the night in the marae’s comfortable accommodation, surrounded by the warmth and beauty of the Maori culture.
Day 7. Ride to Rotoaira Homestead. After bidding farewell to the Owahanga Marae, we set off for Rotoaira Homestead, a historic sheep station nestled at the base of Mt Ruapehu. Ride through rolling farmland, cross picturesque rivers, and soak in the breathtaking views of the mountains. Arriving at Rotoaira Homestead, we are greeted with warm hospitality and cosy accommodation. Relax by the fireplace, enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal, and reflect on the incredible journey so far.
Day 8. Explore Rotoaira Homestead. Today is dedicated to exploring the beauty of Rotoaira Homestead and its surroundings. Take a leisurely stroll around the farm, hike up the nearby hills for panoramic views, or simply relax by the river with a good book. This is a day to unwind, recharge, and fully appreciate the tranquility of rural New Zealand.
Day 9. Ride to Cape Turnagain. Our adventure continues as we make our way to Cape Turnagain, a stunning coastal area known for its rugged beauty and abundant marine life. Ride along the beach, feel the wind in your hair, and witness the power of the ocean waves crashing against the rocky cliffs. It's an experience that will leave you in awe of New Zealand's natural wonders. Tonight, we camp under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the sea and the peacefulness of the wilderness.
Day 10-14. Return to Timeless Horse Treks. The final leg of our journey brings us back to where it all began – Timeless Horse Treks in Ballance. Reflect on the memories made, the challenges overcome, and the friendships formed during this unforgettable horse riding adventure. Celebrate with a farewell dinner, sharing stories and laughter with your fellow riders.
