ACT Kendo Renmei is a sports club based in Canberra, Australia. It is currently the only kendo club practising the Japanese martial art of Kendo in the city. Operated under ANU Sport at The Australian National University, ACT Kendo Renmei is affiliated with the ACT Kendo Renmei, the Australian Kendo Renmei, and the International Kendo Federation.
Kendo, which literally means 'The Way of the Sword' in Japanese, is one of Japan's oldest and most traditional martial arts. Its origins can be traced back to the Samurai warriors of ancient Japan. Despite its transformation into a popular sport form, Kendo still embodies the core principles of the katana, the traditional Japanese sword.
ACT Kendo Renmei welcomes both men and women of all ages to practise and compete together. The club provides a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals who are interested in learning and honing their skills in Kendo. Whether one is a beginner looking to explore this ancient art or an experienced practitioner seeking to further their expertise, ACT Kendo Renmei offers a place to train and improve.
In addition to regular training sessions, the club organises various events throughout the year, providing opportunities for members to showcase their skills, compete with other clubs, and further immerse themselves in the world of Kendo. These events foster a sense of camaraderie and community within the club, strengthening the bonds among its members.
ACT Kendo Renmei offers membership options for individuals who wish to join the club and participate in its activities. Members have access to specialised training equipment and facilities, as well as guidance and mentorship from experienced instructors. The club also provides a newsletter to keep members updated on upcoming events, training schedules, and other relevant information.
If you are interested in exploring the art of Kendo or seeking a club to continue your Kendo journey, ACT Kendo Renmei offers a vibrant and welcoming community within the heart of Canberra. Join today and embark on a path of discipline, personal growth, and mastery of the sword.
