About
The Adelaide Hills Kennel Club was formed in 1980 after the disastrous bush fires in the Adelaide Hills and has always been a “Hills Club”. The majority of the committee live in the hills and with only one or two exceptions all the shows have been held in the Adelaide Hills to support the local communities.
The Club's inaugural show was an Open show held on Sunday the 21st of December in 1980, at the Oakbank Racecourse with our first Championship show held the following year on Saturday the 12th of December 1981. To check out the past winners of our shows head to the Past Show Results page.
Since it's inception, The Adelaide Hills Kennel Club has been a very innovative club.
In October 1980, the Adelaide Hills Kennel Club arranged for Mrs Rachel Page Elliott, the world renowned authority on dog management, to giver her only lectures outside NSW on her Australian Visit. Mrs Page signed copies of her book Dogsteps at this entertaining evening, a publication that is still in print and recognised throughout the Dog World.
The first Battle Of The Champions event was held in 1981.
The Adelaide Hills Kennel Club was one of the very early clubs to hold this type of competition, a “round-robin” competition in which all invited dogs must be an Australian Champion and have to had won either Best In Show or Runner Up In Show within South Australia.
