Aikido Australia – Sydney City Centre is a sports club located in the heart of Sydney, dedicated to promoting and supporting the teachings of Aikido. The club is affiliated with the Takemusu Aiki Association Inc. , a non-profit organisation that works towards spreading the practise of Aikido.
Saburo Takayasu Sensei, a 7th Dan Shihan, serves as the Chief Instructor and President of the Takemusu Aiki Association Inc. in Australia. Under his guidance, the club has grown to include several dojos in the Sydney metropolitan area.
Aikido is a modern martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, also known as the founder, who transformed it from a battle technique into a spiritual path. It is based on principles of non-aggression, non-resistance, and non-competitiveness, making it unique in its ability to allow individuals to defend themselves against stronger opponents without relying solely on strength or speed. Aikido not only teaches self-defence but also promotes understanding and respect towards others.
What sets Aikido apart from other martial arts is its emphasis on timing, positioning, and balance-taking rather than physical power. The techniques involve joint locks, pins, and throws that aim to immobilise an attacker and resolve conflicts in a peaceful and safe manner. Training partners take turns playing offensive and defensive roles, allowing each individual to experience both aspects of the technique. Aikido can be practised at various speeds and intensities, accommodating each individual's abilities and progression.
In the club's training environment, co-operation and mutual respect are key. Aikido is a non-competitive art, and each practitioner progresses at their own pace. The practise not only helps develop physical skills such as balance, reflexes, and mental concentration but also instils proper etiquette and behaviour.
At Aikido Australia – Sydney City Centre, students have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors. In addition to Saburo Takayasu Sensei, Derek Minus Sensei, a 6th Dan practitioner, also teaches at the club. Both instructors bring their expertise and passion for Aikido to their teachings.
Whether you are a man, woman, or child of any age, Aikido offers a gentle yet empowering practise that brings about spiritual growth, mental focus, and physical well-being. Beyond the dojo, Aikido teaches individuals how to find a harmonious way through conflicts in everyday life.
For those interested in starting their Aikido journey, Aikido Australia – Sydney City Centre welcomes you to find a location near you. Discover the art of harmony and experience the benefits Aikido has to offer.
