The National Aikido Association of Australia, Aiki Kai (Australia), was established in 1965 under the direct authorisation of the Aikido founder, Ueshiba Morihei, also known as O-Sensei. Sugano Seiichi, a direct student of O-Sensei and an 8th Dan Aikido practitioner, was the head of Aiki-Kai in Australia and the Australian representative to the affiliated parent organisation, World Aikido Headquarters (Hombu), located in Japan. After Sugano Seiichi's passing in 2010, his responsibilities have been entrusted to the Sugano Foundation, which continues to carry out his legacy.
