The National Aikido Association of Australia, Aiki Kai (Australia), was formed in 1965 with the direct authorisation of the Aikido founder, Ueshiba Morihei, also known as O-Sensei. Sugano Seiichi (8th Dan), a direct student of O-Sensei, served as the head of Aiki-Kai in Australia and the Australian representative to the affiliated parent organisation, World Aikido Headquarters (Hombu), based in Japan. After Sugano Seiichi's passing in 2010, his responsibilities have been carried forward by the Sugano Foundation.
