The Australian Power Boat Association Queensland Council is a sports club located in Brisbane, Australia. They are the recognised national sporting organisation for the sport of power boat racing in Australia and are affiliated with the Union International Motonautique (UIM), the international governing body of power boating.
The Queensland State Council is responsible for administering power boat racing in Queensland and reports to the national body. Their duties include affiliating clubs, sanctioning race meetings, and issuing race licences throughout the state. The state council consists of member clubs and executive officers who work together to ensure the smooth operation of power boat racing in Queensland.
The sport of power boat racing in Queensland primarily focuses on circuit racing and offshore racing. Circuit racing classes range from the Formula Future J1 class for drivers as young as eight years old and powered by engines up to six horsepower, to the Unlimited Outboard, Unlimited Hydroplane, and Unlimited Displacement classes. Offshore classes start with the Supercat 400 hp class, with boats usually powered by twin 200 horsepower outboard engines, and go up to the Supercat Extreme class with engines up to 1,500 horsepower or more.
While the grand prix, offshore, and blown alcohol displacement (BAD) boats may receive the bulk of the media attention, power boat racing is also one of the most affordable forms of motorsport available. There is a class and level of competition to suit almost any budget. Race days range from low-key club racing to championship events, offering a variety of options for participants.
The Australian Power Boat Association Queensland Council welcomes individuals and families who are interested in joining the sport. They encourage interested parties to contact them or a club near them to find out more about how they can get involved and experience the excitement and fun of power boat racing.
