Welcome to Balmain Amateur Swim Club! Founded in 1884, we are the oldest swimming club in Australia and pride ourselves on being the most social and fun. Located at the historic Dawn Fraser Baths in Balmain, we have a rich history and a vibrant swimming community.
Every Saturday afternoon from October to April, we gather at 3:45pm for our swimming races. We cater to all age groups, from juniors to 'Golden Oldies', ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the thrill of racing. Our events include freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and distance races ranging from 15m to 1500m. Whether you're a competitive swimmer or just looking to dip your toes, there's an event for everyone.
After the races, we gather for a BBQ where kids and grown-ups alike can socialise, relax, and share stories from the pool. It's not uncommon for the kids to brag about how they outswam their parents! This friendly and inclusive atmosphere is what sets us apart and keeps our members coming back season after season.
The club's longevity speaks to its importance in the swimming community. We have produced many notable swimmers, divers, water polo players, and life-savers over the years. Our members have achieved distinction both locally and nationally, making the Balmain Amateur Swim Club a renowned institution in Australian swimming.
Membership registration for the Balmain Amateur Swim Club opens in February of each year. We are currently in the process of changing the club's name back to Balmain Amateur Swimming and Water Polo Club Inc to reflect our rich history and connexion to water polo. In the meantime, registrations are being done through the Balmain Water Polo Club website, where members can also find information about fees and insurance coverage.
Join us at Balmain Amateur Swim Club for a fun and fulfilling swimming experience. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or just looking to have a splash, our club offers a welcoming and supportive community that will make you feel right at home. Dive in, make a splash, and be part of the oldest swimming club in Australia!
