Barry's journey in golf coaching began after completing his traineeship at Ryde- Parramatta Golf Club under the mentorship of renowned Australia Tour professional, Mr Frank Philips. He then played in the Pro-Am circuit and Australian Tour events for five years before becoming the Senior Assistant professional at The Lakes Golf Club in 1987. It was at The Lakes where Barry honed his coaching skills, achieving success with players under his guidance. Many of his students went on to become Golf professionals themselves.
Throughout his career, Barry held positions as the Head Golf Professional or Director of Golf at various golf clubs, including Bermagui Country Club, Marsden Park Golf Academy, and New Brighton Golf Club. At New Brighton, Barry achieved great success with their Pennant Teams, winning multiple times. He also had the opportunity to coach notable players such as Mi Hyang Lee (LPGA Tour Player) and Jordan Mullaney (Australasian Tour Player). Working with these Tour Players, Barry not only refined their swing techniques but also helped them with their mental approach to the game.
Barry's coaching philosophy revolves around ensuring his students have a comprehensive understanding of their swing and simplifying the technical aspects. He believes that the real enjoyment in golf comes from challenging oneself to be the best they can be. Barry has continuously updated his knowledge and teaching skills through numerous coaching seminars, including the Australian Coaching Summit, and attending the Butch Harmon Coaching Academy in Las Vegas.
