Behold Art With Yoga Brush & Ink is a sports club in Melbourne that offers meditative brush and ink workshops and courses, as well as art therapy and yoga classes. The club is dedicated to promoting wellbeing through the practise of brush and ink painting, which helps develop focus, calmness, and mental strength.
Located in Carlton and Thornbury, Behold Art offers a variety of classes for both adults and children. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, all face-to-face classes have been temporarily suspended until at least September 2nd. Students requiring assistance or advice during this period are encouraged to leave a message on Richard's voicemail or send an email.
Richard Liddicut, the teacher at Behold Art, has been teaching brush and ink since 1975. He has extensive experience in oriental ink brush painting and Japanese calligraphy, and currently holds the 'Shihan Kaku' teaching rank in Japanese calligraphy with Shodo Gaku Shu Schol in Nagoya, Japan. Richard is also a trained secondary art teacher.
The club offers a range of short courses, including a Japanese calligraphy workshop and ink brush painting courses for children. These courses provide students with an opportunity to learn traditional Japanese techniques and develop mindfulness, perception, and innate energies through the use of ink, brush, paper, posture, and breath.
Classes are held at the Painting Room in Green Monday Studios, located at 73 Grattan Street, Carlton. There are options for both experienced students and general participants, with classes offered on Tuesday during the day and evening. The cost of the courses varies depending on the number of classes attended, and there are discounts available for seniors and concession cardholders. Casual class options are also available.
