About

Bibbulmun Orienteers (BO) is one of the metropolitan clubs in Orienteering Western Australia, catering to individuals who have a passion for orienteering. The club derives its name from the indigenous inhabitants of the south-west region of Western Australia. While most of the members reside in the inner and outer metropolitan areas east of Perth, the club warmly welcomes members from all over Perth and the surrounding areas.

Led by Convenor Sue Dowling, Bibbulmun Orienteers organises a range of events and activities for its members. With a dedicated Facebook page, the club keeps its followers updated on the latest happenings and upcoming events. This ensures that members are always aware of the exciting opportunities to participate in orienteering activities.

The club takes pride in being a part of the wider orienteering community in Western Australia. It regularly participates in events organised by Orienteering Western Australia and also collaborates with other clubs within the region.

Bibbulmun Orienteers recently hosted the Kambarang Carnival, a National Championships carnival that spanned nine days between September 30th and October 8th. This event included the Australian Schools Championships and took place in various locations near the Avon Valley, ranging from Brookton to the Avon Valley National Park. Additionally, sprint events were held within the city. The success of this carnival showcased the club's ability to organise and execute large-scale events.

The club also celebrates the achievements of its members. Don Young, a dedicated member of Bibbulmun Orienteers, has recently been inducted into the OA Hall of Fame. This recognition highlights the outstanding contributions made by Don to the development of orienteering in Australia, particularly in the areas of administration, event management, and mapping.

In addition to organised events, Bibbulmun Orienteers offers Anytime Orienteering, a unique opportunity for individuals to explore orienteering courses at their own convenience. The club provides free maps of both urban and bushland areas in Western Australia, allowing participants to engage in orienteering and practise their map-reading and navigation skills whenever they desire. A Guide is available for each area, providing helpful information for those interested in getting started.

To stay up to date with the latest news and events from Bibbulmun Orienteers, individuals can subscribe to the club's enewsletter. This ensures that they receive regular updates directly to their email inbox.

Bibbulmun Orienteers acknowledges the Noongar people, the Traditional and continuing Custodians of the land on which they operate. The club respects and pays tribute to Elders both past and present.
