About

Blades Short Track Speed Skating Club is a sports club located in Brisbane, Australia. The club, based at Iceworld Boondall, is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels to participate in the thrilling sport of short track speed skating. Whether you are a beginner or a world-class speed skater, Blades has a place for you.

Blades offers divisions for Nippers (under 8 years old) all the way up to Masters (over 30 years old), demonstrating that age is no barrier in the world of speed skating. The club's Sunday morning sessions, from 9:00am to 10:00am, provide the perfect opportunity for members to hit the ice and enjoy some invigorating laps. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes prior to the session to allow time for gear preparation.

To introduce new participants to the sport, Blades offers four free come and try sessions. These sessions are an excellent way to learn the basics of speed skating and experience the exhilaration firsthand. Interested individuals must get in touch with Blades President, Chris Brookes, via email (presidentblades@gmail. Com) prior to the session they plan to attend.

Blades warmly welcomes Australian Ice Racing affiliated members to their training sessions. The cost for each training session is $20 and payment can be made upon arrival. Iceworld Boondall, the club's home rink, is conveniently located at 2304 Sandgate Road, Boondall, QLD 4034.

Stay connected with Blades Short Track Speed Skating Club by visiting their Facebook page, where you can find the latest news and updates on training days and times. For any inquiries or further information, feel free to email Chris at presidentblades@gmail. Com or Lisa at secretaryblades1@gmail. Com.

In addition to their regular training and come and try sessions, Blades Short Track Speed Skating Club also participates in various events and camps. For example, Australian Ice Racing conducts an open development camp, held in Queensland in mid-April, providing additional training opportunities. The club's race days, including the Duke Trophy and the Australian Championships, are also eagerly awaited events on the calendar.

Thinking of joining Blades? Here's what you need to bring: long sleeves, long pants, full finger gloves, and a hard shell bicycle helmet. If available, knee guards, elbow guards, and shin guards are also recommended. The club has a limited number of skates, including speed skates, and some protective gear available for use.

Arriving at the rink by 8:30am on Sundays allows ample time to get skates and gear up before hitting the ice at 9:00am.
