About
A group of people in the Blayney community are trying to start up a Little Athletics (Little A’s) club in Blayney. A club has previously run in Blayney, however this ceased in 1989.
In order to run competition nights, we have estimated that the initial setup, with the basic equipment, will cost approximately $20000. We have launched a fund-raising appeal and so far we have had an outstanding response, from various businesses within the community. With that and other money we have raised, we are well on the way the achieving our goal. We hope to commence competition nights in the next season, which begins in September 2013 and runs until April 2014.
Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian sport for children aged 5–16 years. As the name suggests, it is based upon the sport of athletics (track and field) and the events are specially modified to suit the ages and abilities of children. A wide range of running, jumping, throwing and walking events is conducted. Little Athletics recognises that children vary widely in shape, size and athletic ability, and is thus one of few sports that successfully cater for them all.
Each year across NSW, approximately 40,000 boys and girls enjoy the activities that Little Athletics has to offer.
Little A’s, as it is affectionately referred to by those who enjoy it, is not really about winning, but about having fun, making friends and getting families involved in healthy activities. The emphasis is placed on participation and personal improvement. It is little surprise then, that the motto of Little Athletics is “Family, Fun and Fitness”.
