Bribie Island Surf Life Saving Club, located at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, is a well-established sports club in the Moreton Bay Regional area of Queensland, Australia. With a rich history dating back to 1923, when it was founded by the Metropolitan Swimming Club, the club has been providing essential patrolling services to the beach for almost a century.
Woorim Beach, situated on the eastern side of Bribie Island, offers a picturesque and safe swimming environment for families. Partially protected by Moreton Island, the beach experiences minimal swell, making it a popular choice for beachgoers. However, it's important to note that the beach can have strong currents, inshore holes, and occasional bluebottle stings under strong north-easterly conditions. To ensure the safety of all visitors, it is always advised to swim between the flags.
One of the highlights of the Bribie Island Surf Life Saving Club is its thriving Junior Activities section, catering to children aged 7 to 13. With a membership of approximately 200 children, this programme focuses on nurturing surf confidence and imparting essential surf safety skills. Additionally, the Junior Activities section offers young members the opportunity to participate in competitive events within the Surf Sports Arena.
The Senior Surf Life Saving Club, on the other hand, boasts a patrolling membership of around 220 dedicated lifesavers. These individuals play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of beachgoers by patrolling the beach from September to May each year. Their commitment and expertise make Bribie Island beach a safe haven for locals and tourists alike.
Bribie Island SLSC takes pride in its members and acknowledges the contributions of many exceptional individuals over the years. The club's Life and Distinguished Members list recognises those who have made a significant impact on the club's success and longevity. From Ian Grant and Elton Williamson to Chris Smith and Rhonda Cybulski, these individuals have helped shape the club's vibrant spirit and community-oriented approach.
To support its activities and charitable initiatives, Bribie Island SLSC relies on the support of generous sponsors. These sponsors play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the club's facilities and programmes. The club encourages community members and businesses to get involved and become sponsors to help safeguard the future of this iconic surf life-saving club.
