Burdekin Rugby Union Canetoads

Ruggers Rolling. Interested Rugby Union followers will meet and discuss the proposed constitution for the club at the Kalamia Hotel on Monday night at 8 o’clock. This was the beginning of rugby in the small country district, Burdekin, one hour south of Townsville. On 28th November 1977 at 8pm, a meeting full of support backed up the proposal to start the club to play in the Townsville and District Rugby Union competition.

The ‘Burdekin Ruggers’ had full support at the meeting, and it was definitely the start of something new.
