About

The Capital Hapkido Community started as a small group of like-minded martial artists that held the view that quality Korean Martial Arts programmes should be available to all without an exorbitant price. These views were not supported by the teams previous clubs, whose core belief was in profit over quality and an unwillingness to accept the need to train in practical aspects of self-defence.

The groups views came to life in 2012 when a team of black belts and a handful of colour belt students were formally given permission to create the Capital Hapkido Community.

Grand Master Young Seol Ryoo of the Korea Hapkido Federation (KHF) and founder of the Martial Arts College International (MACI) shared the groups vision of high quality Korean Martial Arts systems for the people without the 'quality' price tag. Grand Master Ryoo endorsed the Capital Hapkido Community and the community enjoys the full support from MACI, the KHF, and the International Gong Kwon Yu Sul Federation.

Today the Capital Hapkido Community stands as a government recognised Not For Profit community with members studying both Hapkido and Gong Kwon YuSul. In just a short time the community has reached approximately 50 members and has participated in several MACI events, of which our students took gold, silver, and bronze medals from all divisions of the 2014 National Gong Kwon Yu Sul tournament. We have also delivered 3 Women's Self Defence Courses and a Specialist Training Programme to the ACT Community Sector, FREE OF CHARGE.

2015 is shaping up to be a huge year for the community with the view to raising the bar in terms of quality training, delivering community programmes, and expanding our Family-friendly community!
