A strategy board-game that pits the wits and intellect of participants in a head-to-head battle is the game of Chess. Played on a checkered board with an 8 by 8 grid, giving 64 squares, players try to use their 16 pieces to beat the opposing 16 pieces. Games are won when a player's king is placed under an inescapable threat of capture. Within the 16 pieces there are 8 pawns, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, one queen and one king.
