Chihuahua Club of SA Inc.

The Chihuahua Club of SA Inc is a sports club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The club is dedicated to promoting the Chihuahua breed and educating and encouraging new members, breeders, and exhibitors. Their objective is to generate public interest in Chihuahuas and foster fellowship among individuals interested in the breed.

The club was founded in 1968 by Mr. Alan and Mrs. Peggy Rochford, who brought seven Chihuahuas with them when they immigrated from England to Australia. The inaugural general meeting was held on February 6, 1968, at the Thebarton Community Hall.

The meeting saw a great turnout, and by the end of the night, the Chihuahua Club of SA was officially formed, with elected office bearers. The club later gained incorporation and affiliation with the South Australian Canine Council (SACA).

Membership to the Chihuahua Club of SA Inc is open to all individuals interested in Chihuahuas. The club's members have extensive knowledge about the breed and are always willing to assist with any inquiries. Members are also provided with the club's official magazine, “Chi Chit Chat,” which is published twice a year.

Throughout its history, the club has achieved several notable milestones. The first ever club magazine, “Chi Chit Chat,” was published in 1968, and the first Chihuahua female owned in South Australia was recorded in 1958. In 1963, the first Chihuahua Champion was crowned in South Australia, and in 1964, a Chihuahua won “Best Puppy in Show” at the Adelaide Royal Show. The club also played a significant role in establishing the acceptance of cross coat breeding in Australia in 1979.
