Clarendon Bowling Club, located in the picturesque riverside park of the City of Onkaparinga, has been a prominent sports club since its formation in 1932. Despite being a small club, it has consistently achieved success in the Great Southern Bowling Association, earning promotions to higher divisions in both the Saturday Pennants Open Gender competition and the Ladies Thursday Pennant competition.
One of the standout features of Clarendon Bowling Club is its all-weather green. With a first-class synthetic playing surface, members can enjoy playing bowls year-round, with very few days lost to inclement weather. This provides an excellent opportunity for both experienced bowlers and beginners to hone their skills in a comfortable environment.
In addition to the regular competitions, Clarendon Bowling Club also offers various social events and competitions throughout the year. Pete's Pairs, an open competition held on Wednesdays, attracts some of the best players in the region. The club also hosts a Saturday competition during the 'off season', where anyone is welcome to 'come and try' the game of bowls. All necessary equipment is provided, and experienced members of the club are always on hand to offer guidance and support to newcomers.
For those looking for a friendly and enjoyable night out, Clarendon Bowling Club organises the popular Night Owls competition on Friday evenings. This competition, held in two seasons either side of Christmas, welcomes teams of four players. If you're looking for additional players or more information, the club is more than happy to assist.
As a full STARCLUB member, Clarendon Bowling Club is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all members. The club recently added outdoor tables and chairs, thanks to the support of the Onkaparinga Council, allowing members and visitors to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
The club has also seen a special tribute in the form of The Kevin Spencer Memorial Green. Kevin Spencer, a dedicated member of Clarendon Bowling Club for over 35 years, was instrumental in the club's success and development. The majority of the funds for the upgrade to the synthetic playing surface in 2011 were donated by Kevin's son, Raymond, who is now the current Club Patron. Kevin's achievements and contributions to the club are commemorated through the renaming of the green in his honour.
