Coolum Beach SLSC is a vibrant and inclusive sports club located in the beautiful Sunshine Coast region of Australia. With a strong focus on surf lifesaving and community engagement, Coolum Beach SLSC offers a range of opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to get involved.
By becoming a member of Coolum Beach SLSC, individuals have the chance to give back to the community while broadening their skills and making new friends. Surf lifesavers from all walks of life are welcome to join the club, as age is not a limiting factor in becoming part of the lifesaving family. Whether you are a seasoned professional or a beginner, there is a place for you at Coolum Beach SLSC.
One of the main activities at Coolum Beach SLSC is patrolling the beach as part of a Patrol. These patrols take place on weekends and public holidays, with the option of morning or afternoon shifts. Members are rostered for approximately 10–12 patrols a year, starting from the September School Holidays and continuing until Labour Day Weekend in May. Patrolling duties vary, and members with different strengths and qualifications play important roles.
Bronze Medallion holders are trained to rescue people from the surf, while others may work as Radio Operators in the tower or provide First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation on the beach.
Becoming a financial, active member of Coolum Beach SLSC comes with a range of benefits in addition to the satisfaction of contributing to community safety. Members gain access to club facilities, approved patrolling and surf sports equipment, and a variety of other perks. The club also provides training, amenities, sports coaching, and gym discounts to its members.
For those who are not quite ready to become full members, there are still opportunities to support Coolum Beach SLSC. Running a surf lifesaving club requires substantial financial resources, and assistance is always welcome. Donations, sponsorships, and the purchase of merchandise can all help provide the necessary funds for equipment, administration, and training.
Coolum Beach SLSC is also home to the popular Nippers programme, aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years. Nippers offers a fun and educational summer sport where kids can learn essential surf safety skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and make new friends. The programme runs from the September school holidays until February/March and includes opportunities for competition and mid-week training.
In addition to its commitment to surf safety and community involvement, Coolum Beach SLSC is also part of the Accessible Beaches Programme in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Council. This programme ensures that everyone can enjoy the beach by providing beach matting and a WaterWheels Beach Wheelchair during volunteer patrols. To access the Beach Wheelchair, visitors are encouraged to book in advance, ensuring its availability during the September to April period on weekends and public holidays.
