Cooma Basketball Association

The Cooma Basketball Association is a not-for-profit sports club located in Cooma, Australia. Since its establishment over 50 years ago, the association has been dedicated to providing basketball development programmes for boys, girls, men, and women in the Snowy Mountains region.

In 1980, with the support of the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation, the Cooma Basketball Association collaborated with the Cooma Monaro Shire Council and other community supporters to transform the old Snowy Hydro Sheds into the state-of-the-art Cooma Basketball Stadium. The extensive renovations included upgrades to the flooring, markings, electronic scoring system, backboards, rings, signage, toilets, canteen, scorers desk, and spectator seating facilities. Over the years, the stadium has undergone further improvements to its roofing, lighting, and accessibility features.

One of the association's notable achievements was hosting a Guinness World Record event in 2011 in partnership with Monaro High School. They successfully set the record for the longest continuous game of basketball, lasting approximately 32 hours. This event was a fundraiser, and the proceeds were used to support basketball engagement programmes in flood-ridden Fiji, where participants travelled to assist with social and sporting recovery efforts.
