Cowra Rifle Club Inc. is a sports club located in the Cowra Shire Council in Australia. The club was established in 1878 and has a rich history in the community. Over the years, the club has utilised various ranges in the region to accommodate its activities.
The first range used by the Cowra Rifle Club was located on the Southern edge of Cowra. As the club grew and gained popularity, a range on the North side of Bellevue or “Billy Goat” Hill was upgraded by the army in preparation for World War Two. However, this range had to be abandoned due to the placement of the Cowra Prisoner of War camp in the danger area.
Subsequently, the army constructed a new range on the Darby’s Falls Road, on property owned by Bob Campbell. This range served as the primary location for the Rifle Club's activities until the range on Bellevue Hill was reopened. During this time, the Cowra and Lyndhurst rifle clubs held several combined open prize meetings, attracting many competitors. Eventually, the range on Darby’s Falls Road closed due to the growing pressures of the expanding town.
In response to the closure of the Darby’s Falls Road range, the Cowra Rifle Club members constructed a new range on the property of Cleve Goodacre. This range continued to facilitate the club's activities until the property was subdivided. Recognising the importance of the Cowra Rifle Club, the Lyndhurst Club graciously accepted the Cowra Rifle Club to continue their activities on the Jack Emms range.
The Cowra Rifle Club Inc. is proud of its history and the contributions it has made to the community. As an active sports club, it offers opportunities for individuals to participate in rifle shooting and compete against other accomplished shooters. The club is dedicated to fostering a friendly and supportive environment for all its members.
