Over 20 years of teaching experience, Cudgegong Valley Physical Culture is led by Principal Teacher Kellie Morgan. Kellie has achieved success in both team and individual competitions and brings a wealth of Physi experience to the club.
Physical Culture, also known as “Physie”, is a unique but competitive sport that combines dance, ballet, and exercise routines. It is open to girls and ladies from the ages of 5 and above. The sport focuses on controlled aerobic exercise, incorporating choreographed routines and rhythmical movements. These movements, such as bending, jumping, swinging, twisting, or kicking, utilise the participant's body weight for resistance.
The aim of Physical Culture is to increase body strength and flexibility.
Each year, the club learns a new syllabus set to different music and works diligently to perfect each step, in preparation for competitions. Physie competitions assess participants on their technique, presentation, performance, energy, athletic ability, and overall enjoyment. Competitors showcase their strength, flexibility, and endurance, which are essential for executing challenging routines. Competitions comprise both team and individual events, taking into account the age group of the participants.
Physical Culture requires exceptional control, grace, endurance, flexibility, and precise timing. It is a technically-based movement to music and is often likened to synchronised swimming, callisthenics, ballet, and cheer squad. As a non-profit organisation, Cudgegong Valley Physical Culture aims to support and foster the growth of Physical Culture in the Central West region.
Classes for Cudgegong Valley Physical Culture are held at Cudgegong Valley Public School in Mudgee every Wednesday. Different age groups, ranging from 3–6 years old to Ladies Seniors, are catered to by the club. Team participation is open to all regular attendees, and the opportunity to present a team for competition will depend on interest and numbers.
With a focus on creating a supportive and inclusive environment, Cudgegong Valley Physical Culture attracts students from various backgrounds and levels of experience. The club encourages volunteering and participation from members and their families, promoting a sense of community within the sport.
