On the 2nd November 1883 a meeting was held with the intention of forming a Rugby Union Association in Queensland. At the time Melbourne Rules was the dominant code with both it and Rugby administered by the Queensland Football Association. As a result of the meeting The Northern Rugby Union was created due to dissatisfaction with Rugby treatment by the Queensland Football Association.
