The East Maitland Gryphons cater for Rugby League players ranging from Under 6's through to Under 17's (however from 2014, the club will only field teams up to U/16's).
The 6 to 12 age groups play under the Maitland & Districts Junior Rugby League Association. All these ages play modified rugby league games. Mini footy is played for 6–8 years and Mod footy for U/9 years. These are played in a non compeditive fun environment without scoring.
Players aged 10–12 years play Mod footy in graded competitions which includes finals series matches. A safe play code governs all these ages.
The U/13 to U/17 years age groups play under Junior International Rugby League rules within the Hunter Valley Association. Again aspects of the safe play code applies to age groups up to and including U/15's.
All teams / players are graded at different skills levels from Under 10s upwards. This ensures more even competitions and provides greater opportunities for players to develop in an environment suited to their needs.
Our club has accredited coaches and first aid officers in all age groups.
We utilise 2 grounds for home games. The main ground is Shamrock Oval at Murphy Circuit in Ashtonfield however we also use King Edward Park in Banks St East Maitland for some training and night matches.
In 2012 we celebrated the Gryphons juniors 50th anniversary. The club has a proud reputation for fostering the development of rugby league players from beginners through to representative levels.
