Divided into three disciplines, the foil, the épée and the sabre, fencing consists of trying to make contact with your opponent with your weapon. An Olympic sport since 1960, each discipline has its own rules and weapon types. Competitors wear protective gear including a mesh face guard in a sport based on traditional swordsmanship.
