Gold Coast Academy of Sport

Welcome to the Gold Coast Academy of Sport! Founded in 2009, the Gold Coast Academy of Sport is a not-for-profit sporting organisation dedicated to producing future champions within the Gold Coast region. The Academy offers programmes designed to provide opportunities for young athletes, both able-bodied and those with disabilities, to develop fundamental physical literacy and sport-specific skills. These programmes aim to support lifelong engagement with sport and prepare athletes for regional, state, national, and international competitions.

The Academy's key message is to retain and further develop talent in sport.

The Academy offers a variety of sporting programmes for athletes aged 12–18 years, which are positioned in the 'Talent' phase of the FTEM framework. Each programme is uniquely designed for the specific sport and can range from a few days to six months in duration. These programmes aim to promote interest, participation, knowledge, and opportunity for all involved. Additionally, they encourage athletes to utilise the tools and skills they learn to reach their full potential.

The pressures and challenges facing talented athletes extend beyond physical performance. Expectations, time management, social media, financial pressures, education, training, and recovery are just some pressures athletes must cope with. The Academy focuses on equipping athletes with information to help them cope with these challenges and other areas they face in their sporting lives. In particular, the Academy highlights the importance of ensuring athletes have the skills and knowledge to handle performance and training pressures, enabling them to enjoy their sport and perform at their best when competing at the elite level.

Education and retention of athletes within sport is a key aim of the Academy. It is widely recognised that many athletes walk away from their sport between the ages of 12 and 18. The Academy's mission is to engage with these athletes and provide them with opportunities for further development within their chosen sport, through skill development and core education sessions. Recognising and acknowledging talent and performance is a significant factor in growing an athlete's confidence, which in turn helps them achieve their goals.
