Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC), located in Victor Harbour – Goolwa, is South Australia's youngest club dedicated to keeping beach users safe. The club was created by a group of passionate volunteers who commit their time and efforts to ensure the safety of individuals on the beach and in the water.
In 2019, Goolwa SLSC moved into a state-of-the-art clubhouse that features an upstairs bar and dining area. Members and visitors are warmly welcomed to the clubhouse, where they can enjoy breathtaking views, purchase beverages, and dine on locally sourced food.
Goolwa SLSC has received several prestigious awards, including the 2021 Australian Surf Lifesaver of the Year, awarded to Matt Burrage, and the 2021 South Australian Youth Surf Life Saver of the Year, awarded to Tom Breen. Their dedication and expertise in saving lives and promoting beach safety have been recognised and celebrated.
The Goolwa coastline, part of the Alexandrina council, offers a diverse range of coastal experiences, including fishing, swimming, kayaking, and surfing. While the beach is usually a haven for visitors, it can also be one of the most hazardous and dangerous stretches of coast in Australia. This is why the presence of surf lifesavers from Goolwa SLSC is imperative. They possess a deep understanding of the conditions and regularly train at Goolwa beach.
The club has inherited wisdom, rescue stories, and valuable advice from experienced octogenarian members, which they pass down to younger generations.
By supporting Goolwa SLSC, you ensure that a vital service is provided, and resources are available in times of emergency. To contribute, you can register your interest in becoming a member of the club. Registrations open annually on July 1st and follow the financial year calendar, with membership fees due between August 21st and November 30th.
The club offers a range of programmes for different age groups, including Nippers and Youth. The Nippers programme provides youngsters with an opportunity to learn essential lifesaving skills and participate in various activities. The Youth programme caters to the needs and interests of older members. Both programmes offer a range of activities to engage and educate participants.
For those interested in becoming a patrol member, Goolwa SLSC provides all the necessary information and guidance. The club values the involvement of dedicated individuals who are willing to contribute their time and skills to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
If you are a current member looking to renew your membership, you can easily do so by accessing the club's members' area on the website and following the renewal instructions.
Goolwa SLSC welcomes individuals and families to join their community and contribute to the important work of saving lives and promoting beach safety.
