Hairy Lobster Dive Club

Hairy Lobster Dive Club is a locally based sports club located in Kempsey Shire Council, organised by the South West Rocks Dive Centre. The club's main objective is to provide local divers with more opportunities to dive frequently and pursue their passion for the underwater world.

The South West Rocks Dive Centre has been in operation for over 40 years and is a family-owned and operated business. They have a team of highly experienced dive staff who conduct dives to Fish Rock on a daily basis. Fish Rock is a renowned dive site located two kilometres south-east of Smoky Cape in South West Rocks. It is known for its unique ecosystem and is rated among the top five dive sites in Australia.

Dive Tours are the main activity organised by Hairy Lobster Dive Club, with daily tours offered to Fish Rock. This location is chosen for its excellent diving conditions and diverse marine life. The club offers guided double dives, with the first dive usually taking place at sites such as “The Shark Gutters,” “Fish & Chips,” or “The Aquarium. ” Divers can expect to encounter 20-30 Grey Nurse Sharks and various other marine species during this dive.

The second dive typically takes place at Fish Rock Cave, the only true ocean cave dive in Australia, running 125 metres right through Fish Rock. Depending on each diver's confidence and ability, they may enter and exit the cave through different sides or decide to dive outside the cave if conditions are not suitable or if they prefer not to dive the cave.

The dive club ensures that divers have a varied experience by exploring different sites on the Northern side of Fish Rock, including “The Pinnacle” and “Land of the Giants” when conditions permit. Divers meet at the dive shop to set up their equipment at 7:45 am before heading to the Macleay River wharf to board the boat. The double dive tour lasts approximately 5. 5 hours.

In addition to offering fantastic diving experiences, Hairy Lobster Dive Club has gained recognition through various media appearances. They were featured on Channel Ten's “The Living Room” with Dr. Chris Brown (The Bondi Vet). They have also been involved in film shoots, such as “Shark Beach” with Chris Hemsworth and Valery Taylor.
