Heidelberg Archers

Heidelberg Archers is a sports club located in Melbourne, Victoria. With a passion for archery, the club aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for archers of all skill levels.

The club's main facility is situated at 25 Orr St in Heidelberg Heights, offering a spacious and well-equipped shooting range for members to practise their skills. The range is open twice a week, on Mondays and Sundays, providing ample opportunities for members to engage in their sport.

One of the standout features of Heidelberg Archers is its unique points system. Points are awarded to archers based on their performance in weekly shoots, with 1st place receiving 9 points and 5th place receiving 1 point. The top 24 points are recorded, with a maximum score of 216. This system aims to reward regular attendance while also determining the overall winner, who is recognised as the best archer at the end of the year.

To keep the competition exciting, the club is considering implementing changes for the upcoming year. One proposed change is that once an archer reaches the maximum score of 216, they cannot claim any more points. This will allow other archers to have a chance at winning maximum points and keep the competition lively.

Heidelberg Archers also operates a handicap system to accommodate new archers. Newcomers start at 10m and shoot 18 arrows. The distance at which they start scoring is determined by their first score, with the aim of reaching a score of around 450 when shooting 60 arrows. The club is considering combining this handicap system with a shoot-off at the end of the year, creating an exciting qualification process for archers.

The club regularly organises friendly matches and formal shoots to provide archers with opportunities to test their skills and compete against other clubs. These events help archers simulate tournament conditions and gain valuable experience in a competitive setting.
