The Hervey Bay Game Fishing Club (HBGFC) is a renowned sports club located in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia. Situated on the beautiful Fraser Coast, just a short 3. 5-hour drive north of Brisbane or a quick flight from Sydney, Hervey Bay is a hidden gem for game fishing enthusiasts.

To actively participate in the club's exciting events, such as the upcoming Hervey Bay GARMIN Fishing Classic from the 10th to the 12th of November 2023, interested individuals can follow these steps. Firstly, they can become a member of HBGFC or be a member of an affiliated Queensland Game Fishing Association or Game Fishing Australia club. Next, they should register for the tournament and carefully read the tournament rules. Lastly, filling in the Mothership form is required to complete the registration process.

The waters around Hervey Bay offer a wide variety of species that make it a prime destination for game fishing. The area is well-known for its abundance of small black marlin and sailfish, which can be found all along the spit extending 20 nautical miles north of Fraser Island. This stretch of water is renowned for providing some of the best light tackle game fishing opportunities in both Australia and the world. For those who venture further out, beyond depths of 100 metres, the chance to catch large blue-black and striped marlin awaits.

In addition to marlin, other exciting species can be encountered on the eastern side of Fraser Island, including Wahoo, Mahi Mahi (Dolphin Fish), Tuna, Sailfish, Spanish Mackerel, Shark Mackerel, Grey Mackerel, Amber Jack, Trevally, Cobia, Yellowtail King Fish, and many more. Similarly, the western side of Fraser Island offers excellent light tackle sports fishing opportunities, with most of these species also available in the calm waters found there.

What sets Hervey Bay apart from other destinations is the unique opportunity to catch sailfish and black marlin while trolling in just a foot of water. This extraordinary experience can be enjoyed in hot spots such as Roonies Point, Station Hill, and various reefs and areas where bait is present. At Roonies Point, it is fascinating to witness the marlin feeding at night, and they can be easily caught using live bait during these hours.
