Hill View Bushwalkers

Hill View Bushwalkers is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. The club was established in the early 1970s and has since grown steadily, maintaining an informal and friendly structure. Hill View Bushwalkers is an incorporated group and is affiliated with Bushwalking NSW.

The club offers a variety of walks at three different levels of activity, led by volunteer members. The Plus walking group tackles walks ranging from 14 to 20 kilometres, with significant ascents and descents. The Regular walking group covers distances between 8 and 13 kilometres, with less strenuous climbs. The EZY walking group is designed for those who prefer a slower pace, with walks of up to 8 kilometres.

These walks are currently held fortnightly.

Hill View Bushwalkers has a membership that primarily consists of mature individuals, including part-time workers and retirees. The club occasionally organises weekend getaways to locations with low-cost accommodation and scenic day walks, such as the Snowy Mountains or the NSW South Coast.

Members have the opportunity to participate in two six-month programmes each year, offering a weekly walk from mid-February to mid-November. The development of each programme involves a subcommittee preparing a list of proposed walks, which is then circulated among the members who volunteer to lead walks. Once the final programme is published, walks take place within reach of a one-day trip from the meeting point in Turramurra, allowing for exploration of areas such as the Blue Mountains, the Central Coast, Royal National Park, and the wider Sydney region.

Safety is a priority for Hill View Bushwalkers. Walks are not limited in terms of participants, unless restricted by COVID-19 regulations, and leaders ensure that arrangements are made to include all walkers. Every walk has two nominated First Aiders, with First Aid training encouraged and subsidised by the club.

Transportation to walk locations is usually done through carpooling, but the club also makes use of public transport whenever possible. Hill View Bushwalkers has implemented COVID-safe measures, modifying its programme and procedures accordingly.
