Huntingdale Junior Football Club, located in Perth, is a thriving sports club with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1983. The club was founded by dedicated local volunteers and has since become known as the “Mighty Blues. ” Nestled at Sutherlands F Reserve in Huntingdale, the club has always been the family-oriented club of choice, situated between the larger clubs of Thornlie and Gosnells.
Over the years, the Huntingdale Junior Football Club has had remarkable success, producing talented AFL players such as Dominic Cassisi (Port Adelaide) and Ryan Hargrave (Western Bulldogs). Many of the club's young footballers have also gone on to play in the WAFL Colts, Reserves, and League for prominent teams like Perth, South Fremantle, East Fremantle, and Swan Districts.
Today, Huntingdale Junior Football Club remains dedicated to providing a happy, fun, and safe environment for children aged Pre-Primary to Year 12 to learn and play Australian Rules football. The club aims to instil a love for the game and foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth among its members.
One of the outstanding features of Huntingdale Junior Football Club is its commitment to female football. The club's female football programme has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2018. The programme started with just six girls in the Year 3/4 age group and has now expanded to include three dedicated female-only teams in the Year 5/6, Year 7/8, and Year 9/10 age groups. With over 70 girls participating, the club has established a solid foundation for a Female Pathway in its district.
The success of Huntingdale Junior Football Club's female teams is evident with both the Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 teams reaching the Grand Finals, with the latter clinching the club's first-ever female topship flag. Games are primarily held on Friday nights against clubs in the Perth District, Swans District, and East Perth District, with the possibility of some Sunday fixtures for the Youth-age Girls teams.
Training days and times for the club's female teams are dependent on oval availability, which will be communicated after the registration and team nomination period. Huntingdale Junior Football Club actively participates in Female Only Competitions and is actively seeking players in the following age groups: Girls Junior Year 3/4, Girls Junior Year 5/6, Girls Youth Year 7/8, Girls Youth Year 9/10, and Girls Youth Year 11/12.
For those interested in joining the female football programme at Huntingdale Junior Football Club in 2024, an Expression of Interest form can be completed, and the club's Female Football Delegates will be in touch.
With its strong community focus, commitment to player development, and thriving female football programme, Huntingdale Junior Football Club is the perfect choice for families looking to engage their children in the sport of Australian Rules football while being part of a supportive and inclusive community.
