Il Shim International Taekwon-Do is renowned for its involvement in various events, including tournaments and seminars. They host exciting events like the Kick-Off Camp in Sunshine Coast, the Black Belt Seminar in Sydney, the NSW State Championship, and the Grand Master Daher Seminar in Rockhampton, among others. To ensure safety during sparring events, Il Shim International Taekwon-Do enforces the use of compulsory safety equipment, including dipped foam sparring gloves and boots or ITF approved sparring equipment, a mouth guard, groyne guard for boys, and a head guard. Bout times for colour belts and senior black belts consist of two rounds of 1 ½ minutes, with a 30-second break. In case of a draw, an additional 1-minute round is played, and if another draw occurs, the first to score rule applies in the subsequent round.
In terms of point scoring, balance must be maintained during and after an attack for points to be awarded. Points are only counted for contact made to the front of the body, not the back. Hand attacks to the mid or high section earn one point, foot attacks to the mid-section earn two points, and foot attacks to the high section earn three points. Warnings and fouls are given for various infractions, such as attacks to illegal targets, falling down, holding/grabbing/pushing/sweeping, stepping outside the ring with both feet, and faking blows or pretending to be injured, among others.
