Established in 1916, Kirra Surf Life Saving Club is the second-oldest club in Queensland, located in the vibrant Gold Coast. It was founded in response to a tragic incident on January 6th, 1916, where two friends swimming on the unpatrolled beach found themselves in distress, resulting in the drowning of one friend. The local community rallied together and held a public meeting the following day, where the decision was made to form the Kirra Surf Life Saving Club.
Kirra SLSC's mission is to serve the bathing public of Kirra beach and its surrounding areas, focusing on protecting lives, preserving safety, and preventing incidents through proactive and contemporary lifesaving practises. The club is dedicated to maintaining vigilance and providing exceptional service to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
At Kirra SLSC, there are various ways to get involved in surf life-saving. Individuals can choose to take on either an active or support role, with numerous positions available to help grow and develop the club and its members. Whether you are interested in participating in water-based patrols, training as a lifeguard, or assisting in administrative roles, there is a place for everyone to contribute and play a vital part in keeping the public and our beaches safe.
Kirra SLSC also offers a range of facilities and services to its members and the wider community. Located at 15 Marine Parade, Kirra, the club features a reputable bar and restaurant, which is the perfect spot for relaxation and socialising after a day of activities on the beach.
