Lake Albert Golf Club has a rich history that dates back to its formation in 1968. Originally a 9-hole course with black sand scrapes, it was transformed into an 18-hole course in 1979 under the guidance of local designers Bow Jude and Dave Cleland. The new course was first played on in 1981 and has remained the same ever since.
Throughout the years, members have dedicated their time to various projects aimed at improving the course. In 1986, members volunteered to lay irrigation pipes throughout the entire course, and in subsequent years, additional greens were developed. Today, Lake Albert Golf Club boasts one of the best rural golf courses in South Australia, characterised by the thousands of trees lining its fairways.
The club maintains a close-knit community with around sixty-five full-time members. The course upkeep is primarily carried out by volunteers, with one greenkeeper working three days a week. The club is currently in the process of installing cart paths and replacing sprinklers to further enhance the course's appeal.
To reach Lake Albert Golf Club, visitors can follow the South Eastern Freeway from Adelaide for approximately 150 kilometres until they reach Tailem Bend. From there, they can turn right onto Princes Highway (Highway 1) and continue for around 30 minutes until they arrive in Meningie. The golf course entrance is located to the right just past the hospital, and a prominent sign indicates its presence.
