The Lake Macquarie Dockers Australian Football Club is a prominent sports club located in Newcastle, Australia. Established in 2012, the club participates in the AFL Hunter Central Coast Seniors league and represents the Lake Macquarie region. With a strong emphasis on Australian Rules Football, the club is dedicated to promoting and developing the sport within the local community.
The Lake Macquarie Dockers have a rich history, with notable achievements and memorable moments since their inception. In 2012, a combined squad consisting of players from Lake Macquarie and Balmain Dockers' under 16's and 18's teams travelled to Perth to participate in the Fremantle Partner Club Challenge. The squad received their playing strip from the Integrated Programmed Maintenance Group and had the opportunity to visit ABC Studios and meet ABC commentator Clint Wheeldon. They also had an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Fremantle Dockers' training facility and gained valuable insights from rookie players about AFL draught preparations.
The trip culminated in a successful victory for the NSW Dockers in the Partner Club Challenge and the team was honoured with a game ball signed by the tour party.
The Lake Macquarie Dockers pride themselves on their excellent facilities and training programmes. They train at Club Macquarie and often organise team bonding sessions at the nearby park adjacent to the Swan River. The club has a close partnership with the Fremantle Dockers and is privileged to be able to use their state-of-the-art training facility. This partnership allows the players to gain exposure to the professional environment of an AFL club and learn from experienced players.
The club actively engages with the local community and organises various events throughout the year. They regularly host senior presentation nights to recognise and celebrate the achievements of their players. The club also participates in the “Fremantle Fives” training-based game competition, which brings together teams from partner clubs in Western Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for players to showcase their skills and compete against other clubs.
The Lake Macquarie Dockers Australian Football Club is supported by a dedicated group of parents who contribute to various roles, such as running water and player strapping, during matches and events. Their commitment and involvement are crucial to the success of the club.
