Years, the club faced its fair share of challenges, but with determination and hard work, it established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the Australian rules football scene in Canberra.
The Belconnen Magpies Football Club is located in Kippax, Canberra, and competes in the AFL Canberra grade competition. The club fields teams in six senior grades, including first and second grade men's and women's teams, men's regional team, and men's and women's Rising stars competitions. This allows us to cater to a wide range of players of all skill levels and ages.
Belconnen Magpies Football Club has strong affiliations with two junior feeder clubs. The Belconnen Cats Junior AFL Club, based in East Belconnen, caters to boys and girls from under 8s to under 17s, as well as providing an Auskick Rookie programme for younger children. The Magpies Juniors Football Club, based in West Belconnen, also offers teams for boys and girls from under 8s to under 17s, as well as an Auskick Rookie programme. These feeder clubs provide a pathway for young talent to progress through the ranks and eventually join the senior ranks of the Belconnen Magpies.
The Belconnen Magpies had a successful 2022 season, with the reserves team winning the leadingship and the first grade men and first grade women teams performing strongly in finals. The 2023 season promises to be even more exciting, with the addition of new players and a returning coaching staff. Coaches James Bennett, Paul Netting, and Lachie O'Sullivan will lead their respective sides, all of whom are considered premiership contenders. Prospective players are encouraged to register online to join the teams.
