Mattara Fishing Club

The Mattara Fishing Club is a highly successful and well-established sports club located in Newcastle, NSW. The club's mission is to promote social and family activities centred around sustainable recreational fishing. They achieve this through various activities such as monthly open club competitions, organising weekend fishing and camping trips, participating in district, state, and national competitions, and advocating for the sport within the political and administrative spheres.

The Mattara Fishing Club is proud to have Central Charlestown Leagues Club as their major sponsor, and their financial resources primarily come from the raffles held at Central every Thursday evening from 6pm. All club members are encouraged to attend these raffles to support the club.

The club organises weekend trips throughout the year to different locations, including Lake StClair for freshwater fishing, Birubi Beach, Tiona, Middle Rock, Jimmy's Beach, Seal Rocks, and other venues. These trips provide opportunities for members to enjoy fishing and camping, with all their food and camp fees provided at a small nightly cost.

Members of the Mattara Fishing Club participate and compete successfully in various types of fishing competitions, such as Freshwater, Beach, Rock, Estuary, Deep Sea, and Game fishing. The club holds monthly meetings on the 1st Thursday of each month in the boardroom at Central Charlestown Leagues Club, right after the raffles at around 8pm. These meetings serve as a platform for members to discuss club matters and stay updated on the latest news and events.
