About
Based in the central northern coastal region of Tasmania the club draws members from the region around the the city of Devonport.
Mersey Valley Devonport Cycling Club has a proud history dating from the late 1950s when the club was formed as the Mersey Valley Amateur Cycling Club to promote cycle racing at tracks in the district. Latrobe, Devonport & Railton tracks formed a nucleus of a strong and successful sporting tradition. Organised cycle racing in the area dates back to the late 19th century.
The region has produced many successful athletes who have represented the club at State, National, Olympic and World events.
The club has a very strong focus on the encouragement and development of young cyclists. We host a very popular “Come & Try” programme to encourage kids to have a go at track cycling. The club has a large range of cycles available for hire for a very nominal fee, so kids can get started straight away.
We also host a round of the National Road Series for U19 men & women each year as well as the prestigious Mersey Valley Junior Tour. These events attract young athletes from across the country.
