The Mittagong Lions, with their green and gold strip, are one of the most famous clubs in country football, playing in the Group 6 competition.
The Lions have a proud history, winning the Clayton Cup in 1991 as the top club side throughout country NSW – only the second time a Group 6 team has captured the silverware.
To this day, Mittagong remains the most successful of all surviving Group 6 clubs, in terms of first-grade leadingships.
Mittagong products include former Cronulla (1971-79) and Roosters (1980) five-eighth Barry Andrews and former Steelers (1984, 1986-94) and Cowboys back-rower Ian Russell (1995-96).
In the past decade, the Lions have battled a chronic shortage of dedicated players and a lack of administrative support. However in recent years there has been an increase in interest in the team, and we are now feilding the strongest team we have had in years.
The club is based in the beautiful Southern Highlands and our field sits at the Mittagong Sports Ground, located on the old Hume highway at the northern approach to the town's business centre and adjacent to Highlands Golf Club, one of our principal sponsor.
