Moon's Taekwondo is a traditional martial arts club located in Brighton, South Australia. They are a family-oriented club that focuses on technique, fitness, and personal discipline. The head instructor, Master Hong Shik Moon, is a 7th Dan practitioner of the Moo Duk Kwan style. He is supported by instructors Spiro Koulianos and Colin Gould, both of whom are 4th Dan practitioners.
The club's philosophy is based on their oath, which emphasises respect, loyalty, physical fitness, and personal integrity. They aim to approach others with a spirit of friendship and adhere to social ethics at all times. Moon's Taekwondo believes in the importance of Ki-Ahp (yelling) to develop inner strength and promotes a set of ten main points, including balance, flexibility, and the combination of force and soft movements.
Moon's Taekwondo is a member of Australian Taekwondo, and their black (Dan) belts are recognised by the Kukkiwon. They also actively support diversity and inclusion through initiatives such as Good Sports and Play By The Rules.
The club offers classes at the Brighton Primary School gym in Adelaide. New students are welcome to come and watch or join in any session with no obligations. It is recommended to wear light, comfortable clothing, such as tracksuit pants and a t-shirt, and training is done barefoot. Classes involve various activities, including fitness training, stretching, skill acquisition (striking, kicking, blocking, joint locks, throwing), sparring, self-defence skills, and forms.
The club has specific training schedules during school term dates, with no training on public holiday long weekends. Additionally, members have the opportunity to participate in informal runs or pad sessions along the esplanade at Seacliff to further enhance their fitness and skills. Upcoming events can be found on their Facebook page or by reaching out to the instructors.
Members can conveniently access the club's member portal provided by Australian Taekwondo for annual student registrations, class bookings, and payments. The portal opens in a new window and provides easy access to the necessary resources and information for different grading levels. In case members are unable to attend training, home training videos are also available as a resource.
