Located in Sherley Street, Moorooka QLD 4105, Moorooka Marlins State School Swimming is a popular sports club in Brisbane. This amateur swim club welcomes families from all backgrounds and aims to not only teach swimming, but also improve members' techniques and fitness while promoting water safety.
The Moorooka Marlins Swim Club's programme specifically encourages families with young children in the Moorooka community to take up swimming, with a focus on multicultural backgrounds and financial assistance if needed. The club holds Club Nights every Friday during Term 4 and Term 1, except for the Christmas School Holidays or in adverse weather conditions.
Club Nights at Moorooka Marlins Swim Club are a highlight for the members. Swimmers compete against their personal best times, earning points towards the Aggregate Points Trophy, which is awarded at the end of the season. Boys and girls swim together, with events graded from slowest to fastest, creating an inclusive and supportive environment for swimmers of all levels.
To ensure the smooth operation of the club, there are Club Rules outlined in the Marlins Handbook. All members are encouraged to participate in monthly Swim Club Committee meetings, which are held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. Interested individuals can also join the Marlin Subcommittee by nominating at the Moorooka State School P&C Annual General Meeting held in March each year.
The Friday Club Night Schedule is as follows: Check-in starts at 5:00 pm, followed by a warm-up session from 5:35 pm to 6:05 pm. Announcements are made at 6:05 pm, and the Club night programme commences at 6:15 pm. Additionally, the club organises special events like the Lloyd Hawkins Handicap Relay on 24 November 2023, the Personal Best Challenge on 2 February 2024, and the Club Championship Night and Break Up Party on 22 March 2024.
To participate in Club Nights, swim meets, and championships, swimmers must be club members. The annual swim club entry fee is $125 per family per season. For families joining after 1 January (mid-season), the half-yearly fee is $75.
