During the dry season, the track is alive with activity as riders of all ages gather to enjoy the exciting sport of BMX racing. The club typically hosts races on Sunday nights, with registration opening at 4:00 PM and closing promptly at 5:00 PM. The track opens for warm-up during this time, and the gate drops at 5:30 PM, signalling the start of the thrilling races.
Participants compete in three “motos” (races) before taking a ten-minute break, followed by two more motos to round off the evening. Full canteen facilities are available on race nights, ensuring everyone stays refreshed and energised.
To join Nhulunbuy BMX Club, potential members can simply visit the track on training nights or Sunday race nights and approach one of the friendly club members. In order to participate, riders must have a sturdy bike, wear a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, covered shoes, and gloves. Additionally, all members are required to have an AusCycling licence, which can be obtained through the officials at registration.
