Northern Obedience Dog Club Inc is a non-profit volunteer-based sports club in Melbourne that offers obedience training classes for dogs. The club is dedicated to promoting the training and understanding of dogs to ensure they are obedient and companionable in our urban society.
With a history dating back to the early 1950s, Northern Obedience Dog Club is proud to be the second-oldest obedience club in Victoria. It currently boasts over 600 paying members and welcomes handlers over the age of 10 years with parental permission and supervision.
Classes are held on Sunday mornings for puppies, foundation, class 1, class 2, class 3, and class 4. Class 2 and above also have training sessions on Wednesday nights. It is advised to book online in advance to secure a training spot. The club also offers baby puppy classes for puppies aged between 8 to 12 weeks, although bookings for these classes are currently on hold.
To join the club, interested individuals need to become a club member. Prospective members can register their interest by sending an email to northernobedience@gmail. Com, mentioning the age of their dog. However, please note that the club's waiting list for new memberships is currently closed until the current backlog is resolved.
As a non-profit community club, Northern Obedience Dog Club relies on the dedication of volunteers. The club charges a once-off joining fee and an annual membership fee, which grants members unlimited access to most classes throughout the year. Membership also includes participation in the NODC Christmas BBQ.
At the club, owners are taught how to train their dogs. Those with dogs under 6 months start in the Puppy Class, while all other members begin in the Foundation Class. The same exercises are repeated for each level, and when owners and their dogs are ready, they are promoted to the next level. Additionally, the club offers Rally Obedience classes when instructors are available.
For more information, interested individuals can contact the club via phone or email. The clubhouse is open on Sundays from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm when classes are running. The club phone is monitored during this time, and after-hours contact can be made with Glenys Barnes. The club's postal address is PO Box 98, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039, and the clubhouse is located at 10 Rutherford Street, Aberfeldie VIC 3040 (off Bruce Street).
Northern Obedience Dog Club Inc is proudly affiliated with Dogs Victoria, demonstrating its commitment to upholding high standards in obedience training.
