To lease land on Ben Lomond, and by 1932 they had built the first clubhouse, known as the “Tin Shed”. This marked the beginning of the NTAC's presence on the mountain.
Over the years, the NTAC has faced challenges and changes. In 1995, their lodge was destroyed by a fire, but they didn't let that setback stop them. They began rebuilding in 1998 and now have a new lodge that provides accommodation and facilities for their members and guests.
The NTAC is proud to be the oldest club on Ben Lomond, with a rich history that dates back to 1928. They are a community of individuals and families who share a love for outdoor activities, including skiing, hiking, and more. Members range from long-time enthusiasts who have been with the club for over 60 years, to newcomers who are excited to embark on their first skiing adventure.
The club runs on the dedication and passion of its volunteers. It is a place for members to come together, meet new friends, and enjoy the company of old ones. In addition to winter skiing, the NTAC organises social events and workbees throughout the year, providing opportunities for members to connect outside the ski season.
Ben Lomond itself is a picturesque mountain with the second-highest peak in Tasmania, Legges Tor. The club is located within the Ben Lomond National Park, boasting beautiful landscapes and offering a range of outdoor activities for all seasons.
The NTAC is governed by a committee of members who are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. The committee ensures the smooth operation of the club and oversees various aspects, including administration, finances, and member services.
Whether you're a seasoned skier or someone who simply enjoys the great outdoors, the Northern Tasmanian Alpine Club welcomes you. Join this vibrant community, make new friends, and create lasting memories on the slopes of Ben Lomond.
