Onkaparinga Hills Orienteers is a well-established sports club in Adelaide, Australia. Founded in 1978, the club has grown to include 75 members, including international members from the Wiehart Family in Sweden. While members come from various areas, the majority are from the Mitcham and Mitcham Hills region.
The club organises several events throughout the year, ranging from local Adelaide suburban events to major competitions held outside of Adelaide. These events are meticulously planned by a dedicated team, ensuring courses that cater to different ages and navigation abilities. Onkaparinga Hills Orienteers also offers training activities and welcomes new members to participate in either event or evening training sessions. In addition to their sporting activities, the club hosts various social events throughout the year. BBQs are held at select events, and a popular end-of-year social gathering is organised. The annual general meeting is also a social event, keeping the formalities short.
The club's committee is composed of dedicated individuals who hold important roles within the state body (OSA) committee. Robin Uppill serves as the OSA Technical Officer, Adrian Uppill as the Mapping Coordinator, and Bridget Uppill as the Coaching Coordinator. The club takes part in elite competitions, with Simon Uppill running in the South Australian Southern Arrows team in the National Orienteering League. Simon has represented Australia in both Junior and Senior World Orienteering Championships on 10 occasions.
Bridget Uppill, originally from Queensland, has also represented Australia in Junior and Senior World Orienteering Championships and currently serves as the coach of the Junior Southern Arrows Squad.
Onkaparinga Hills Orienteers has a busy calendar of upcoming events, including midweek training sessions, schools zone events, and twilight series events held in various locations across Adelaide. These events provide ample opportunities for members to participate and improve their orienteering skills. The club also supports and encourages members to take part in regional and national competitions, such as the Australian 3 Days event and the SA Sprint Distance Championships.
