Orienteering ACT is a sports club based in Canberra, Australia, specialising in the sport of orienteering. Orienteering is a navigation challenge that combines running or walking with map reading and decision-making skills. The club offers a variety of events and programmes to cater to participants of all ages and skill levels.
The club hosts the annual Runners Shop Twilight Series, held on Wednesday evenings between October and March, at various park and bushland areas in and around Canberra. Participants can expect a range of challenging and diverse courses, set in beautiful natural settings. The complete programme of events is available on their website.
In addition to the Twilight Series, Orienteering ACT also organises the ACT Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships. This event attracts top MTBOers from around the country and offers technical and exciting courses for participants to enjoy. The club prides itself on providing quality events that cater to both competitive and recreational orienteers.
For children in years 3-6, Orienteering ACT offers the SC-ORE series, a team-based activity focused on participation and fun. Students from all primary schools and homeschooled students are welcome to participate. Teams consist of four students with equal gender representation, promoting teamwork and camaraderie.
For those interested in learning the sport of orienteering, the club offers a “Learn to Orienteer” programme. This programme is open to all ages and provides one-hour sessions once a week. Participants will learn various orienteering skills and have plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors and have fun.
Orienteering ACT acknowledges and pays respect to the traditional custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal people, and their Elders past and present. The club is honoured to be able to hold events on their ancestral lands and welcomes participants from all backgrounds to join in their events.
