Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc is a sports club located in Alpine Shire, dedicated to providing positive-based training for canine companions of all ages and handler experience levels. The club offers a range of activities, from Basic Training to the Man's Best Friend Programme, as well as Agility and Rally O. The emphasis on positive reward-based training helps build a strong bond between dogs and their handlers.
New members are always welcome at Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc. The club regularly holds beginner classes for new members, which serve as an excellent introduction to training. These classes run for five weeks and ensure that both the dog and handler receive comprehensive training. It is highly recommended that participants do not miss any classes, as opportunities to make up for missed sessions are limited.
Upon completion of the beginner classes, dogs undergo an assessment and receive a 'Man's Best Friend' certificate. Graduates of the programme are then invited to continue their training and participate in various activities offered by the club.
The club also offers training in Agility, a thrilling sport that involves a handler directing a dog through a course of obstacles. This sport is fast-paced, fun, and allows dogs to showcase their agility and obedience skills. Flyball, another exciting sport, involves a relay race between two teams of four dogs. Dogs must navigate hurdles, trigger a flyball box to retrieve a ball, and return to the start/finish line.
Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc also provides training in Rally-O, a more informal and relaxed form of traditional dog obedience.
Training sessions at Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc take place on Sundays at 9:30 am. Participants are requested to arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and help set up. The club encourages positive-based training methods, which create a solid foundation for further training and activities. In addition to regular training sessions, the club organises various events and activities.
To become a member of Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc, interested individuals can reach out to lead trainer Kathy Volkmer, who can provide information about membership and beginner classes. New members must complete the beginner's programme, along with submitting a membership application and permission slip. Existing members can renew their membership by following the instructions provided in the membership renewal email.
Ovens Valley Canine Club Inc is a welcoming and friendly club that is committed to creating a supportive environment for both dogs and their handlers. The club's dedication to positive reward-based training ensures the well-being and success of all members.
