Pioneer Valley Golf Club (PVGC) is a sports club located in Mackay Regional, Queensland. With a history spanning nearly four decades, PVGC offers a picturesque setting for golf enthusiasts of all levels. The club's nine-hole course was developed on 21 hectares of virgin cattle country and light forest land, transforming it into a beautiful golfing destination.
PVGC was established in 1982 following a meeting at the Marian Community Hall, where local residents expressed their interest in having a golf club in the area. A steering committee was formed, with Tom McGurgan elected as the first President and Brian Fiegert as the inaugural Secretary. After exploring several potential locations, the club secured a 21-hectare parcel of land on Leichhardt Road, Mirani, owned by the Department of Natural Resources.
Thanks to the support of fifty-five foundation members, PVGC began its journey. The late Mr. Bren Alman, a professional at the nearby Mackay Golf Club, contributed to the design of the original nine holes, which now serves as the back nine of PVGC. His expertise ensured a challenging and enjoyable golfing experience for members and visitors alike.
PVGC offers various membership options, providing players with numerous benefits and access to club competitions. Social players are also welcome and can complete a social player details form at the clubhouse or request one via email. EFTPOS is available for convenience, and an authority form can be filled out and deposited in the honesty box.
The club places a strong emphasis on junior golf, providing interactive and fun sessions throughout the year. Juniors can get in touch with the Junior Co-Ordinator, Rachel Hayles, for more information and to join in on the Sunday morning sessions. PVGC encourages a safe and enjoyable environment for junior golf, reminding participants to wear enclosed shoes and practise sun protection.
PVGC's clubhouse operates during specific hours, which may vary due to weather conditions or major events. Bookings are essential to secure a tee time. The club conducts several competitions, welcoming both members and visitors with a Golf Australia handicap and membership at another club. Various competition days are offered, including Women's Tuesdays, Veterans' Thursdays, Club Comps on Saturdays, and Junior Golf on Sunday mornings.
The club keeps members and visitors updated with recent competition results and other news. PVGC also extends its gratitude to sponsors who contribute to the success of the club.
